CHS student attends space academy

Colby Lara, 15, a junior at Carlsbad High School, recently attended Advanced Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. The program is designed for students and adults with an interest in space exploration. Colby, captain of the school’s Robotics Team, spent a week training with a team that flew a simulated mission to Mars. The crew did experiments, trained in NASA-inspired simulators, and slept in quarters designed to resemble the International Space Station. Space Camp operates year-round and uses astronaut training techniques to engage trainees in real-world applications of STEM subjects. Visit spacecamp.com or call (800) 637-7223.
